SciFinder Scholar 2007 for Microsoft® Windows 2000 (SP3 or higher), XP (SP1 or SP2), or Vista 1.If you are upgrading from a previous version of SciFinder Scholar, you should deinstall the older version using the Add/Remove Programs function in Windows' Control Panel before installing this version. You may still need to manually erase the folder C:\SFSCHLR after deinstalling the old version. 2.Run sfs2007.exe located on the CD to install the SciFinder Scholar software. You can do this by double clicking on it in Windows Explorer (or My Computer), or choosing Run from your Start menu, typing in the full path to the file and clicking OK 3.Follow the system prompts to complete the installation. 4. YOU WILL NEED TO MANUALLY COPY THE site FILE LOCATED IN THE site prf FOLDER AFTER THE PROGRAM IS INSTALLED ON YOUR HARD DRIVE OR SCIFINDER WILL NOT WORK! During the installation, you will be asked if you have a "Custom Site Files" floppy disk. Answer "No" and proceed with the installation. If you accept the defaults, the installation folder will install the SciFinder Scholar program to your hard disk in the folder C:\SFSCHLR. Let the installation program finish installing the software. Then manually copy the "site" file from the "site prf" folder on the installation CD to the C:\SFSCHLR folder on your hard disk. Once this file is copied over to the proper folder on the hard drive the program should work properly if you are connected to the Internet via UF. 5. If you are off-campus and not using the GatorLink dialup (as would be the case if you have DSL, a cable modem, AOL, or Earthlink, etc.) you will need to download UF's Virtual Private Network (VPN) software and have that running before attempting to use SciFinder Scholar 2007. For more information on the VPN software, see: http://net-services.ufl.edu/provided_services/vpn/ 6.
